Plastics
Plastic is polymer material that can be molded or shaped, processed by heat and pressure.
Platic can be divided into major categories : Thermoplastics and Thermosets.
In particular, Thermoplastics (Polyethylene, Polystyrene, etc.) can be molded and remolded frequently. The polymer structure characteristic of thermoplastic is that the individual molecules separate from one another and flow through one another. The molecules may have very high or low molecular weight, have a branched or linear structure, but still, maintain the essential features of its separability and consequent mobility.
On the other hand, Thermoset plastics can not be reprocessed upon reheating. During the initial processing, thermoset plastics go through a chemical reaction that results in the formation of an infusible, insoluble network. Subsequent reheating does not soften the material to the point that it is reprocessable and only disrupt the material structure.
There are many processing methods for plastics such as injection molding, extrusion, compression molding, blow molding, etc.
